Young North Public School proudly hosted the regional Boccia knockout championships this week for students with a disability. Students use modified equipment instead of the traditional metal balls. YNPS Support class teacher Miss Ebony Cant noted: "We are lucky to have our fantastic hall and are always excited to see our students get to make some new friends as they compete with students from across the region". This event was the regional final with students from Young Public School, Young North Public School and Temora High School lining up to decide the regional champions for 2017.
Miss Cant added: "Congratulations go to Temora, who narrowly defeated our Young North Public School students". However, from the sportsmanship and smiles on students' faces, it looked like everybody was a winner. Young North Principal Kel Smerdon said: "It is events like these that show we need to be very careful to not to underestimate the skills and quality that citizens with a disability bring, I am pretty sure the attention to detail, determination and concentration displayed today would see many of us come out second best not only when playing bocce, but maybe in other areas of life."
