Our local Public School Principal's certainly work hard for their schools and it seems that they have recently achieved a feat often thought impossible for our youngsters here in Young, that being access to a paediatrician without an extended journey. Young North Public School Principal Kel Smerdon said: "As a community of schools we have been working hard to partner with the Department of Education, state and local government departments and Royal Far West to examine the feasibility of providing access to a paediatrician here in Young". He continued to add that "this week we have secured funding and support to implement a 6-month pilot program that will see a combination of both face to face and video link appointments provided to Young North PS, Young PS and Young High School students". Mr Smerdon also noted that this partnership would include a further trial of therapeutic intervention focused psychological support being offered to 24 students over 10 sessions each as well as staff capacity building in a range of occupational therapy strategies. Young High School Principal, Mr Keith Duran, said: "We as a community of schools continue to work hard to deliver the best services we can for our students and do not let barriers stand in our way of providing equitable and high quality access to school and success." A good example of this work and the recognition of Young's public schools sees both Young North PS and Young High School welcoming the Secretary for the Department of Premier's and Cabinet, Mr Blair Comley, who toured to see the innovative programs being offered this week.
