PreLit
PreLit is a systematic, skills-based program that lays a sound foundation for children to learn to read. Teacher at Young North use this program for the first four weeks of Kindergarten to establish routines and pre literacy skills.
InitiaLit
At Young North Public School students in Kindergarten to year 2 engage in the InitiaLit program. This program is ‘an evidence-based whole-class literacy program providing all children with the essential core knowledge and strong foundations to become successful readers and writers’.
MiniLit
At Young North Public School we run the MiniLit program as a literacy intervention program for teaching reading skills to children who are in the bottom 25% of the expected range for their age group. MiniLit is a Teir 2 small group intervention program implemented in K-2.
MultiLit Word Attack Skills is a one-on-one program implemented in years 3-6 to support students to become independent readers by teaching phonic word attack skills. These skills help students to decode text by associating sounds with letters or groups of letters.
LanguageLift
LanguageLift addresses one of the biggest challenges faced by early primary teachers today, which is how to support the large number of children who start school with oral language difficulties. Good early oral language ability is a critical factor contributing to later literacy achievement. At Young North this program is used in K-2 to support identified students who need assistance developing their oral language skills.
